This volume was compiled from Northampton County Court records and will prove to be a valuable asset not only to the genealogist, but to the student of history as well. Contained in this volue are recommendations of the Court of those qualified to serve as officers in the County Militia, a record of their qualifications, certification of the heirs of a deceased soldier or sailor, tracing the descent for three and sometimes four generations, declarations of applicants for pensions, giving the names of the officers under whom the applicant served, battles in which he was engaged, movements of the troops, use, & c.,
This book also includes the Muster Rolls and Pay Rolls of the Twenty-seventh Regiment of Virginia Militia, Northampton County, War of 1812, commanded by Lt. Col. Major S. Pitts, of those entitled to Land Bounty under Act of Congress of 28 September, 1850.
