From 1812 to 1865, the Ker papers represent the activities in the lives of people living on the Eastern Shore of Virgina and Maryland. Sometimes these slips of paper include parties living in Philadelphia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Given is a splendid picture of the necessities and desires for Cessford. Mantles, wall papers and borders, a sideboard, rugs, curtains, etc. are all listed with dats and prices paid. The same follows for the exterior of the house shingles, posts, lime, bricks, paint-even roses for the garden are recorded. Business establishments from Virginia to Connecticut are given. Ker Bible Records and abstracts of a Ker ledger, which list Ker family members as well as slaves, have been included to aid in better understanding familial relationships.
