John Wilkins
Elliott Wilkins, Ph. D.
60 pp

This careful examination of all the surviving evidence of the life of John Wilkins makes possible a detailed reconstruction of Wilkins’ life as well as the lives of many people living on the Eastern Shore during this period.
John Wilkins, born about 1599, immigrated to Virginia in 1618 and became an important person in the growth of the Eastern Shore. He was married twice and was the father of seven children.
The primary sources used to reconstruct the life of John Wilkins, in addition to the first four volumes of court records at Eastville, are the records of the Virginia Company, the Census of 1624 (all year-dates in this study are New Style), the Muster or 1625, the patent books, and the Minutes of the Council and General Court. With the exception of the third and fourth volumes of county records, all have been edited and published.
