Backwater Moon
Kendall Bradley
Set on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, these poems of love, joy, sorrow, and wonder span about forty years in the author’s life. The title refers not just to the many seaside and bayside creeks and marshes which abound on the Eastern Shore, or to the fact that the Eastern Shore is itself a kind of backwater, physically removed from the rest of the state of Virginia, but also to the important processes which quietly occur in the backwater reaches of bay and sea, and, by extension, in the backwaters of human experience. To this, add the moon and a sense of the mystical forces of life, human and otherwise, and you begin to get a feel for this slim volume of verse: Backwater Moon.
